Disrespectful and Stubborn Students

University Students (Vietnam)

Fed up, is what I am feeling right now. To begin with, it has been quite a while since I started teaching general English to university students here in Vietnam, and I guess this is one of the reasons why I am tired with what I am doing. Three years is too long to do the same things over and over again.  But you know what, I could say that I am the most patient teacher someone could imagine...but I'm just human..I get tired, hurt, frustrated and disappointed at times especially if you're dealing with students who are at the bottom of their batch and the laziest, most stubborn and impolite learners in the campus.  And what's worst is that at the end of the day, teachers are always the bad guy in the eyes of the management because students are the kings and queens so they are always right. Isn't it unfair to work like robots and dogs, goofing off  the four corners of the classroom barking pathetically to the wrong walls. I have observed that these kids are never taught how to "respect" teachers because they thought they own us in exchange of their high tuition fee.

So who do you think is more responsible for the students' attitude?...their parents or the institution where they are supposed to learn the values of life? I believe that, culture has nothing to do with the learners' frame of mind in class.  For instance, I was fostered to be humble, and honest to anyone, learning how to forgive and respect others...but I wonder how these young adults are raised? As far as I am concerned, most of their parents thought that spoiling them, is the best way to show how much they love them. Gosh, this generation and the future ones are impossible!
